Why is the durian called the king of fruits?

Durian is a strange combination of savory, sweet, and creamy all at once. A durian is supposed to have subtle hints of chives mixed with powdered sugar. It's supposed to taste like diced garlic and caramel poured into whipped cream.
- Even with the husk intact, the notorious Asian fruit has such a potent stench that it's banned on the Singapore Rapid Mass Transit. Food writer Richard Sterling has written “its odor is best described as…turpentine and onions, garnished with a gym sock. It can be smelled from yards away.”
- Durio zibethinus is the only species available in the international market: other species are sold in their local regions. Regarded by many people in Southeast Asia as the "king of fruits", the durian is distinctive for its large size, strong odour, and formidable thorn-covered rind.
- It was surprisingly tasty — with a texture similar to pulled pork and a flavor that reminded me of a cross between hearts of palm, kimchi, and pineapple. It wasn't really meaty, but it wasn't fruity either. Some experts say this quality is what makes jackfruit a 'miracle' crop: It's versatile.
Contrary to popular belief, you will not have a big spike in your cholesterol level after eating a durian. In fact, this king of fruits has good monounsaturated fats that can actually lower your harmful cholesterol levels and moderate your high blood pressure.
- A ripe lychee should be easy to peel with your fingers. Be very gentle as you carefully remove the thin skin from the fruit. It will likely come off in just a few pieces. Now use your fingers to dig into the lychee a bit to remove the pit.
- Lychee can be poisonous to humans if consumed before they are ripe and the same goes for dogs. Unripe lychee is green, so make sure the fruit is a pinkish color and always remove the peel and seed before giving to your dog.
- Each year, hundreds of children in India alone may be hospitalized with fever, convulsions and seizures. A recent report revealed they are probably due to toxins from unripe lychees. Unripe lychees contain toxins that can cause extremely low blood sugar.
It offers phytonutrients, water, protein, and beneficial fats. While very low in cholesterol and sodium, it is rich in dietary fiber and is a good source of antioxidant vitamin C, which helps scavenge harmful free radicals and assists in your body's resistance against infection.
- Durian can be eaten raw, served with rice, or even fried. When you buy a whole durian, you must use a sharp knife to cut open the shell to reveal the custard-like fruit inside before you can eat it.
- Durian grows in tropical regions around the world, particularly in the Southeast Asian countries of Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. The fruit can grow up to a foot (30 cm) long and six inches (15 cm) wide.
- The mangosteen has flavors that taste like a combination of strawberry, peach, vanilla ice cream; it is definitely sweet with a very slight sourness. The flavor is divine with durian fruit and wonderfully delicate. A mangosteen should be eaten as soon as it is opened.
