Why is cilest discontinued?

Cilest, supplied by Janssen, was discontinued in July for 'commercial' reasons. Professor Helen Stokes-Lampard, of the Royal College of GPs, said: 'Shortages of oral contraceptives have become significantly worse in recent months. 'This is very concerning for both GPs and patients

Then, is cilest the same as Cilique?

Cilique is a combined pill taken by women for contraception. Cilique contains the same active ingredients as a well-known combined pill called Cilest – norgestimate and ethinyl estradiol. Because of this, both Cilest and Cilique are the same in terms of the way they work and side effects they cause.

Similarly, is cilest the same as Lizinna?

Lizinna is a combined pill, which means it has 2 different hormones to help protect your from pregnancy. It actually has the exact same hormones as the pill 'Cilest' which means you can switch between them without any fuss.

Is Cilique safe?

If taken correctly, CILIQUE® is an effective, reversible form of contraception. CILIQUE® will not protect you against sexually transmitted diseases. Only condoms can help to do this. If you have any questions or concerns about your contraception please speak to your local doctor or nurse.

How does the progesterone only pill work?

The "traditional" progestogen-only pill (POP) prevents pregnancy by thickening the mucus in the cervix to stop sperm reaching an egg. The desogestrel progestogen-only pill can also stop ovulation.
