Who makes Bisquick?
The box is the exact same size as the Betty Crocker Gluten Free Dessert Mixes, and it contains 16-ounces of mix. One difference I would like to point out is that the GF Bisquick does not contain shortening in the mix, like the original Bisquick does.
- Determine how much flour, baking powder, shortening and salt are required in the recipe. Substitute Bisquick on a equal ratio with flour. For example, if the recipe calls for 2 cups of flour, use 2 cups of Bisquick. Determine how much baking powder is called for in the recipe.
- You cannot directly use Bisquick in place of AP flour. According to the company web site and Wikipedia, Bisquick consists of bleached all-purpose flour with several other ingredients, including fat (shortening), leavening (baking powder), sugar, and salt. It is essentially a self-rising flour with added fat.
- The ingredients list on a box Bisquick Original Pancake & Baking Mix currently reads “enriched flour bleached (wheat flour, niacin, iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), partially hydrogenated soybean and/or cottonseed oil, leavening (baking soda, sodium aluminum phosphate, monocalcium phosphate),
In general, Original Bisquick should not be substituted in recipes calling for Gluten Free Bisquick. The product formulas are different and each performs differently. Success is ensured by using recipes specifically developed for either Original or Gluten Free Bisquick.

Bisquick Original contains no milk ingredients, though someone on Reddit pointed out that the “Betty Crocker Bisquick Multi-Purpose Baking Mix” in the UK does contain milk ingredients.
- Almond milk is much thicker than regular milk and also comes in sweetened and unsweetened versions. Most almond milks have vanilla flavoring added to them, so omit the vanilla extract in your waffles if necessary. Use 1 cup of almond milk for every 1 cup of milk and add more if your batter is too thick.
