Where DC generator is used?
They are used for supplying field excitation current in DC locomotives for regenerative breaking. This types of generators are used as boosters to compensate the voltage drop in the feeder in various types of distribution systems such as railway service. In series arc lightening this type of generators are mainly used.
DC GENERATOR. An electrical Generator is a machine which converts mechanical energy (or power) into electrical energy (or power). Principle : It is based on the principle of production of dynamically (or motionally) induced e.m.f (Electromotive Force).
- The major difference between an AC generator and a DC generator is that the DC generator requires a mechanism to provide a DC output. This can be done mechanically with a commutator or electronically with a rectifier. Internally, all generators produce an alternating voltage. All generators require a magnetic field.
- The commutation in DC machine or more specifically commutation in DC generator is the process in which generated alternating current in the armature winding of a dc machine is converted into direct current after going through the commutator and the stationary brushes.
