What is the pH level of Dove soap?

The pH of healthy skin is between 4.5 and 5.5. Traditional soap is generally at about a 9, which is far too alkaline. Even "pH balanced" soaps, including Dove, are generally at a 7, which is neutral, but still too alkaline to be truly good for skin.

Accordingly, what is the pH of soap?

These Soaps are salts made from mixing of animal or vegetable oils (acid) with Sodium hydroxide NaOH or Potassium Hydroxide (KOH)(base). Simply says, pH value of a bathing soap should be around 7.5 - 9. It should be partially alkaline. pH 7 is neutral - Plain water.

Is soap an acid or alkaline?

Your skin makes a lightly acidic secretion to help protect itself. This is called the Acid Mantle. Because it is acidic, the most effective way to clean it off, along with excess oils, dirt and germs, is using an alkaline foaming system (soap!).

How do you use phenolphthalein when testing hand made soap?

To use phenolphthalein, wait until your soap has completely cured (6-8 weeks for cold-process soap). Cut a bar of soap, and place a drop or two of phenolphthalein on the cut edge (so that you are testing the "inside" of the bar). Wait for the color of the drops to stabilize, and see what you have.
