What is meant by fringing flux?
Flux fringing - a phenomenon in which the magnetic flux flowing in a magnetic core spreads out (or fringes out) into the surrounding medium, for example in the vicinity of an air gap. Flux crowding is closely related to flux fringing, but flux leakage is usually treated as a different phenomenon.
Mutual inductance is where the magnetic flux of two or more inductors are “linked” so that voltage is induced in one coil proportional to the rate-of-change of current in another. A transformer is a device made of two or more inductors, one of which is powered by AC, inducing an AC voltage across the second inductor.
- Leakage flux is defined as the magnetic flux which does not follow the particularly intended path in a magnetic circuit. Taking an example of solenoid you can explain the leakage flux and the fringing both. When a current is passed through a solenoid, magnetic flux is produced by it.
- Mutual Inductance is the basic operating principal of the transformer, motors, generators and any other electrical component that interacts with another magnetic field. Then we can define mutual induction as the current flowing in one coil that induces a voltage in an adjacent coil.
