What is hydroxyzine HCL 50 mg for?
Hydroxyzine is used to treat itching caused by allergies. It is an antihistamine and works by blocking a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction. Hydroxyzine may also be used short-term to treat anxiety or to help you feel sleepy/relaxed before and after surgery.
Seroquel is probably the most requested sleep medication. The use of Hydroxyzine or Vistaril is often added to other medications to provide clients with additional arsenal against insomnia. Hydroxyzine, as with most antihistamines, has a very sedative property, which makes it useful for treating insomnia.
- Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of hydrOXYzine such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with hydrOXYzine.
- Drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, constipation, or dry mouth may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. To relieve dry mouth, suck (sugarless) hard candy or ice chips, chew (sugarless) gum, drink water, or use a saliva substitute.
- Atarax is not a narcotic medication. It is an antihistamine (similar to Benadryl or Claritin), and it is commonly used to treat itching, nausea, and vomiting, and anxiety.
