What is high bar and low bar?

Low-bar squats are used in powerlifting because it's a way to express strength in the squat movement. The torso can be more horizontal while loads shift more into the posterior. This shift allows the glutes and hamstrings to become more involved and requires less range of motion than the high-bar squat.

People also ask, where should you hold the bar while squatting?

3) Unracking the Bar
  1. Start with your feet under the bar and your hands in position.
  2. Get under the bar and into the high-bar or low-bar position.
  3. Adjust your grip if necessary but stay tight.
  4. Keep your chest up and elbows down.
  5. Take a big diaphragmatic breath in and hold.
  6. Squat up to unrack the bar.

Is high bar or low bar squat better?

The high-bar position lends itself to staying more upright when you squat, and that hits the quads harder and is more common among those who train Olympic lifts (snatches and clean and jerks). Low-bar squatting hits the hamstrings and glutes better and allows you to lift heavier, so it's more common among powerlifters.
