What is armature and field winding in motor?

The armature winding is the main current-carrying winding in which the electromotive force (emf) or counter-emf of rotation is induced. The current in the armature winding is known as the armature current. The field winding produces the magnetic field in the machine. See Electric rotating machinery, Generator, Motor.

Also question is, what is field winding in alternator?

The rotating magnetic field induces an AC voltage in the stator windings. Since the currents in the stator windings vary in step with the position of the rotor, an alternator is a synchronous generator. The rotor's magnetic field may be produced by permanent magnets, or by a field coil electromagnet.

What is a motor winding?

Armature circuit - A winding where the load current is carried, such that can be either stationary or rotating part of motor or generator. Field circuit - A set of windings that produces a magnetic field so that the electromagnetic induction can take place in electric machines.

What is the field current?

An electric generator or electric motor consists of a rotor spinning in a magnetic field. The magnetic field may be produced by permanent magnets or by field coils. In the case of a machine with field coils, a current must flow in the coils to generate the field, otherwise no power is transferred to or from the rotor.
