What is a slip critical connection?

Slip-critical joint, from structural engineering, is a type of bolted structural steel connection which relies on friction between the two connected elements rather than bolt shear or bolt bearing to join two structural elements. The "turn of the nut" method is also widely used to achieve that state of friction.

What is the nut factor?

The nut factor is a grouping of the assumptions associated with torque measurement into one number. It is an empirical value that linearly models the rate at which tension is developed within a fastener when torque is applied.
