What is a positive feedback amplifier?
The result is a comparator: With negative feedback (the output voltage “fed back” somehow to the inverting input), the circuit tends to prevent itself from driving the output to full saturation. Another type of feedback, namely positive feedback, also finds application in op-amp circuits.
Negative Feedback Systems. Feedback reduces the overall gain of a system with the degree of reduction being related to the systems open-loop gain. Negative feedback also has effects of reducing distortion, noise, sensitivity to external changes as well as improving system bandwidth and input and output impedances.

- The open-loop gain of an amplifier is the gain obtained when no overall feedback is used in the circuit. Open loop gain, in some amplifiers, can be exceedingly high. An ideal operational amplifier has infinite open-loop gain. Typically an op-amp may have a maximal open-loop gain of around .
Taking the op-amp's output voltage and coupling it to the inverting input is a technique known as negative feedback, and it is the key to having a self-stabilizing system (this is true not only of op-amps, but of any dynamic system in general).
- A voltage buffer amplifier is used to transfer a voltage from a first circuit, having a high output impedance level, to a second circuit with a low input impedance level. The interposed buffer amplifier prevents the second circuit from loading the first circuit unacceptably and interfering with its desired operation.
