What is a pet animal?

A pet or companion animal is an animal kept primarily for a person's company, protection, or entertainment rather than as a working animal, livestock, or laboratory animal. Two of the most popular pets are dogs and cats.

Hereof, is a horse a pet?

I suppose one could say yes and no, a horse is and is not a pet. Some horses are used by humans for worm purposes and some are kept for pleasure. I would call a horse a pet if it kept, properly maintained and used for recreational purposes. They can be a pet if you make them one.

Is a horse a domestic animal?

domestic animal. an animal, as the horse or cat, that has been tamed and kept by humans as a work animal, food source, or pet, especially a member of those species that have, through selective breeding, become notably different from their wild ancestors.

Are horses considered pets or livestock?

However, in most federal references on waste management, NPDES, etc the horse is considered along with other commercially raised food production livestock. We contend that the horse is fundamentally livestock. Although horses may also be companion animals often used in recreation, they have never been defined as pets.
