What is a hypertonic solution?

A hypertonic solution is a particular type of solution that has a greater concentration of solutes on the outside of a cell when compared with the inside of a cell.

How do hypotonic solutions work?

Hypotonic solutions contain less solute then blood does, which causes water to want to leave the hypotonic solution and enter an area that has a higher concentration of solute via osmosis.
