# What does positive predictive value mean?

Positive predictive value is the probability that subjects with a positive screening test truly have the disease. Negative predictive value is the probability that subjects with a negative screening test truly don't have the disease.

Moreover, what is a positive value in math?

Absolute Value. Absolute value describes the distance of a number on the number line from 0 without considering which direction from zero the number lies. The absolute value of a number is never negative.

How is positive predictive value calculated?

Specificity: probability that a test result will be negative when the disease is not present (true negative rate). Positive predictive value: probability that the disease is present when the test is positive. = a / (a+c) Negative predictive value: probability that the disease is not present when the test is negative.
