What does it mean to be in the 75th percentile?
If you know that your score is in the 90th percentile, that means you scored better than 90% of people who took the test. Percentiles are commonly used to report scores in tests, like the SAT, GRE and LSAT. for example, the 70th percentile on the 2013 GRE was 156. The 75th percentile is also called the third quartile.
This is easiest to explain by example. If your 3-month-old daughter is in the 40th percentile for weight, that means 40 percent of 3-month-old girls weigh the same as or less than your baby, and 60 percent weigh more. The higher the percentile number, the bigger your baby is compared to other babies her same age.
- Fetal ultrasound measurements can include the crown rump length (CRL), biparietal diameter (BPD), femur length (FL), head circumference (HC), occipitofrontal diameter (OFD), abdominal circumference (AC), and humerus length (HL), as well as calculation of the estimated fetal weight (EFW).
- A:Femur length or the length of the thighbone is an index of fetal growth in the uterus. In the last three months of pregnancy, the longer the bone, the longer is the length of the baby at birth. It is not an index of the final growth of the adult.
- A: BPD stands for biparietal diameter. It is a measurement of the baby's head from side to side. The measurement is utilized to help determine the dating of the pregnancy, and is most accurate if done after the 13th week.
