Examples: width, depth and height are dimensions. A line has one dimension, a square has two dimensions, and a cube has three dimensions. In Physics it can also mean any physical measurement such as length, time, mass.
What are dimensions used for?
A dimension is a structure that categorizes facts and measures in order to enable users to answer business questions. Commonly used dimensions are people, products, place and time. In a data warehouse, dimensions provide structured labeling information to otherwise unordered numeric measures.
What are the different dimensions?
When someone mentions “different dimensions,” we tend to think of things like parallel universes – alternate realities that exist parallel to our own, but where things work or happened differently. The first dimension, as already noted, is that which gives it length (aka. the x-axis).
