What Does 4wd AUTO mean?

Automatic 4WD is a full-time system that lets the vehicle operate in 2WD (either front or rear) until the system judges that 4WD or AWD is needed. It then automatically routes power to all four wheels, varying the ratio between front and rear axles as necessary.

What is the difference in 4wd and 2wd?

The system operates in the 2WD mode but will automatically divert power to the other wheels if slippage is detected, thus temporarily engaging the 4WD until traction is regained. Next up is the full-time 4WD system. Full-time 4WD employs front, rear and center differentials that allow individual wheel speed to vary.
