What causes a boil on your bum?

Boils are usually caused by a type of bacteria called Staphylococcus (staph). Many staph infections develop into abscesses and can become serious very quickly. This germ can be present on normal skin and enters the body through tiny breaks in the skin or by traveling down a hair to the follicle.

Keeping this in consideration, how long does it take to get rid of boils?

Boils may take from 1 to 3 weeks to heal. In most cases, a boil will not heal until it opens and drains. This can take up to a week. A carbuncle often requires treatment by your healthcare provider.
