What are the symptoms of advanced heart failure?

Keep up with your regular checkups, and know which symptoms may mean your treatment needs to be tweaked.
  • Trouble breathing or shortness of breath.
  • Fatigue.
  • Persistent cough.
  • Weight gain or swelling.
  • Lack of appetite or nausea.
  • Increased heart rate.
  • Confusion, trouble thinking.

Is dying of congestive heart failure painful?

In more than half of all people with heart disease, death follows within an hour of an attack, as the heart stops pumping blood, and hence oxygen, to the brain. But chronic congestive heart failure brings a slower, more painful death. There is neither pain nor other sensation. Death follows, usually within hours.
