What are the different approaches to qualitative research?

Like quantitative research, qualitative approaches also rely on precedent literature for theoretical constructs. There are five approaches to qualitative research. They are: Narrative ~ Phenomenology ~ Grounded Theory ~ Ethnography ~ Case Study. Each approach to qualitative research is not mutually exclusive.

Some common methods include focus groups (group discussions), individual interviews, and participation/observations.

There are four main types of quantitative research designs: descriptive, correlational, quasi-experimental and experimental. The differences between the four types primarily relates to the degree the researcher designs for control of the variables in the experiment.
