What are masks in fabrication?

Updated: 4th December 2019

A mask set or a photomask set is a series of electronic data that define geometry for the photolithography steps of semiconductor fabrication. Each of the physical masks generated from this data is called a photomask.

Hereof, what is lithographic printing?

Lithography, planographic printing process that makes use of the immiscibility of grease and water. In the lithographic process, ink is applied to a grease-treated image on the flat printing surface; nonimage (blank) areas, which hold moisture, repel the lithographic ink.

How a photomask is made?

Making a Photomask. A photomask is made by exposing, or writing, the designer's pattern onto a resist coated chrome mask blank. The latent image in the resist is then developed to form the required pattern. The pattern is transferred into the chrome film when the resist layer is removed.

What is reticle in the semiconductor?

A reticle is usually used in the front-end process of semiconductor fabrication. A pattern to be transferred to silicon wafers is produced by chrome etching on a glass plate. The pattern is transferred to wafers through an exposure device.
