A gas cylinder or tank is a pressure vessel used to store gases at above atmospheric pressure. High-pressure gas cylinders are also called bottles.

LPG gas cylinders should be stored outdoors in a well ventilated area. LPG gas cylinders should not be stored indoors. LPG gas is heavier than air and will collect in low areas instead of dissipating. You should treat any cylinder that has ever been filled as a full cylinder, even if you believe it to be empty.

Can gas cylinders be transported lying down?

Ideally cylinders should be transported standing up and firmly secured. Flammable and Liquid withdrawal cylinders should always be transported in upright position. If cylinders are transported lying down than suitable support devices are required to prevent the cylinders from rolling.

How should oxygen and acetylene cylinders be stored?

Oxygen cylinders in storage shall be separated from fuel-gas cylinders or combustible materials (especially oil or grease), a minimum distance of 20 feet (6.1 m) or by a noncombustible barrier at least 5 feet (1.5 m) high having a fire-resistance rating of at least one-half hour.
