Is the thumb the longest finger?

You might say your middle finger, but if you include all 5 fingers, your thumb is actually the longest! It looks like it has only 2 bones, but the third is inside your hand — look at how far down it reaches.

Thereof, is a thumb count as a finger?

It's therefore more accurate to describe a thumb as one of five digits that we have on each hand, rather than as a finger. 'Digit' is the technical term which covers fingers, thumbs, and toes in humans, and similar appendages in some animals. The thumb is the short, thick first digit of the human hand.

Do you have 5 fingers or 4 fingers and a thumb?

The palm has five bones known as metacarpal bones, one to each of the five digits. Human hands contain fourteen digital bones, also called phalanges, or phalanx bones: two in the thumb (the thumb has no middle phalanx) and three in each of the four fingers.

How important is your thumb?

They are called opposable because the thumb can be moved around to touch the other fingers, which gives people the ability to grasp things. Most primates (humans, apes, and Old World monkeys) and some other animals have opposable thumbs. Humans can move their thumb farther across their hand than any other primate.
