Is the Grand Canyon the largest canyon in the United States?
It is often claimed that Palo Duro Canyon is the second largest canyon in the United States. The largest, the Grand Canyon, is 277 miles long, 18 miles wide, and 6,000 ft. deep. Palo Duro Canyon was formed by water erosion from the Prairie Dog Town Fork of the Red River.

Destructive Landforms- Grand Canyon. erosion is the main source of the grand canyon. which is breaking down rocks by wind, and water. and it carved out the valleys where now the colorado river runs.
- The Grand Canyon is located in northern Arizona and is one of the great tourist attractions in the United States. Carved over several million years by the Colorado River, the canyon attains a depth of over 1.6 km (1 mile) and 446 km (277 miles) long.
- A valley formed by flowing water, or river valley, is usually V-shaped. The exact shape will depend on the characteristics of the stream flowing through it. Rivers with steep gradients, as in mountain ranges, produce steep walls and a bottom. Shallower slopes may produce broader and gentler valleys.

- For a long time, Hells Canyon was in the record books as the deepest and narrowest river gorge in North America. The Snake River flows north through the canyon and forms the boundary between Idaho and Oregon. The canyon walls are as high as 7900 feet in places, with the average depth about 5500 feet.
- Antelope Canyon was formed by erosion of Navajo Sandstone, primarily due to flash flooding and secondarily due to other sub-aerial processes. Rainwater, especially during monsoon season, runs into the extensive basin above the slot canyon sections, picking up speed and sand as it rushes into the narrow passageways.
- Hoover Dam is also a highlight of most Grand Canyon helicopter tours. Visitors who still prefer to see Hoover Dam from up close will need to back track a short distance off the Colorado River Bridge, or should consider a Hoover Dam tour from Las Vegas.
