A new biodegradable and recyclable form of medium density fibreboard (MDF) has been created that could dramatically reduce the problem of future waste. However, as MDF cannot be recycled, waste MDF either has to be incinerated or ends up in landfill.
Is MDF formaldehyde free?
The atmosphere created by machining or sanding MDF board contains a mixture of softwood dust and hardwood dust (if it is present). In addition, there will also be free formaldehyde, dust particles onto which formaldehyde is adsorbed and potentially, the resin binder itself and its derivatives.
Is MDF highly flammable?
Fire & Explosion Hazard: MDF is flammable but difficult to ignite. Wood dust may ignite at temperatures greater than 204ºC and high concentration in air (>60g/m3) may spontaneously explode. The ingredients are bonded under heat and pressure.
Disadvantages of plywood. It's more expensive than MDF. And obviously, the higher the grade, and the more special the species of wood, the more expensive it gets. Like MDF, most plywoods contain urea-formaldehyde and other VOCs which can off-gas into your home.

Acrylic plastic is not recycled easily. Among recycled plastics, it is considered as a Group 7 plastic and mostly not collected for recycling. It is possible to form large pieces into useful objects in case they have not suffered crazing, stress or cracking. These are not readily biodegradable.
Summary: Acrylic glass could be made from natural raw materials such as sugars, alcohols or fatty acids, according to new research. Compared with the previous chemical production process, a biotechnological process is far more environmentally friendly.
Recyclable and Sustainable. Aluminium is arguably the most sustainable building material in the world and is also highly recyclable. This is because the aluminium recycling process uses only 5% of the energy used to create primary aluminium from bauxite ore(1).
As an organic material, wood is eminently recyclable or compostable, but wood recycling does not show up on the radar screen for many consumers. A: Any “clean” used wood that is untreated, unstained and unpainted can be recycled. This includes lumber, plywood, pallets and tree branches.

Made from recycled wood fibers and resin, MDF is machine dried and pressed to produce dense, stable sheets. MDF is more stable than solid wood and stands up better to changes in heat and humidity.
Invented in the United States, it is a compound of wood dust and scrap bonded together by a resin containing formaldehyde - a recognised carcinogen. When MDF is cut, sanded, shaped or machined in any way, it releases clouds of dust particles coated with formaldehyde.
How to waterproof MDF. MDF is a fantastic material that is relatively less expensive than many other alternatives, such as plywood. However, when used in high humidity areas such as these it's essential to ensure your MDF is waterproof and able to withstand moisture.
The cut edges of MDF are especially porous, so you need to pay particular attention to sealing these areas. You should always apply two to three coats of primer before you attempt to paint MDF. In between coats of primer, it is a good idea to lightly sand the surface.
Humidity plays a large role in the decision to use MDF or Solid hardwood in your bathroom. MDF cabinets don't expand and contract as much as real wood, but they can be damaged by moisture if water is allowed to penetrate the surface of MDF. This would result in some serious swelling in your vanity.
A jigsaw cuts MDF as easily as it cuts plywood, although you should keep in mind that the more teeth the blade has, the less chance there is of chipping the material around the edges of the cut. You can also cut curves in MDF with a handheld multipurpose or rotary tool fitted with a multi-purpose cutting blade.
Exterior plywood is not restricted to outdoor use. It's almost always used as a subfloor in most homes so that its waterproof qualities will resist moisture from below or water that may be spilled from above. Exterior plywood can also be used on countertops around sinks or even inside cabinets.
Plywood is a broad category of sheet good building materials. Termites don't really like MDF (or most reconstituted wood) because the high glue content makes it strange to eat. You want all the timber that's easy to see or bump to be just about as susceptible to termites as is possible. All the stuff that's deep in the walls can be resistant, but not the other way around.
