Is heat related to kinetic or potential energy?
Heat energy is actually made up partly of kinetic energy and partly of potential energy. In a solid, for example, it's the kinetic energy and potential energies of the atoms as they wiggle around.
Energy comes in two basic forms: potential and kinetic. Potential Energy is any type of stored energy. It can be chemical, nuclear, gravitational, or mechanical. Kinetic Energy is found in movement.
- In nuclear fusion, energy is released when atoms are combined or fused together to form a larger atom. In nuclear fission, atoms are split apart to form smaller atoms, releasing energy. Nuclear power plants use nuclear fission to produce electricity.
- Actually , Energy forms are simply either rest(Potential) or in motion (Kinetic). Potential energy comes in forms that are stored including — chemical, gravitational, mechanical, and nuclear. Kinetic energy forms are doing work — like electrical, heat, light, motion, and sound.
- When you fill your car with gasoline, you are providing it with potential energy. Chemical potential energy is the energy stored in the chemical bonds of a substance. At the same time, some of the potential energy is converted to heat, making the car's engine very hot.
