Is GPS for free?

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a free service that is owned and operated by the U.S. Government and is always available. When we buy a GPS device, we don't pay a monthly fee or pay a tax for GPS support.

Simply so, what is GPS and how does it work?

How does GPS work? The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a network of about 30 satellites orbiting the Earth at an altitude of 20,000 km. Once it has information on how far away at least three satellites are, your GPS receiver can pinpoint your location using a process called trilateration.

How does a personal GPS tracker work?

A GPS tracking system, for example, may be placed in a vehicle, on a cell phone, or on special GPS devices, which can either be a fixed or portable unit. GPS works by providing information on exact location. It can also track the movement of a vehicle or person.
