Is Ativan good for sleep?

Taken at night, benzodiazepines can lead to next-day drowsiness and sedation. These drugs last longer and so may help a person stay asleep through the night. In practice, many of the benzodiazepines used for treating anxiety — such as lorazepam (Ativan) and alprazolam (Xanax) — are also used to induce sleep.

In this regard, how much Ativan is equal to 1 mg Xanax?

1mg lorazepam = 0.5mg alprazolam (Xanax)
You can find this if you google the benzo equivalency chart. So in this case, 4mg lorazepam equals 2mg Xanax.

Is Xanax and Lorazepam the same?

Xanax is the brand name for alprazolam. The extended release alprazolam or Xanax XR is 0.5 mg – 1 mg twice a day. Lorazepam is also used for anxiety disorder as well as insomnia due to anxiety or stress. Lorazepam 1 mg – 2 mg is used daily in 2 – 3 divided doses, and for insomnia 2 mg – 4 mg at bedtime.

Is Xanax more addictive than Ativan?

Lorazepam also has fewer unfavorable interactions with other medications when compared to alprazolam. Each medication, however, can cause dangerous increased sedation when consumed with alcohol, other depressants or other anti-anxiety medications. Both drugs also have the potential for addiction.
