7UP changes label to avoid misleading 'natural' claims. In April last year, Cadbury Schweppes reformulated its 7UP product to contain what it termed only '100 per cent natural' ingredients: filtered carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, natural citric acid, natural flavors and natural potassium citrate.

How was 7up invented?

Grigg then invented his second soft drink called Howdy. Charles Leiper Grigg decided to focus on lemon-lime flavors. By October of 1929, he had invented a new drink called, "Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Sodas." The name was quickly changed to 7Up Lithiated Lemon Soda and then again changed to just plain 7Up in 1936.

Why was 7up invented?

He invented the drink in October 1929. Grigg became acquainted with the carbonated beverage business after moving to St. Louis, Missouri. Prior to inventing 7 Up, Grigg had created an orange soft drink named "Whistle" for the Vess Soda Company. It is still made and sold in St. Louis.
