How many mg of ibuprofen can you take at once?
For adults. The recommended dosage for adults is one or two 200 milligram (mg) tablets every four to six hours. Adults should not exceed 800 mg at once or 3,200 mg per day. Adults over the age of 60 should take as little ibuprofen as possible to manage their symptoms.
Relieve your tough pain with MOTRIN® Tablets. They contain ibuprofen – an ingredient that provides fast, effective pain relief. Plus, they're easy to swallow. Available in three strengths: Regular Strength (200 mg), Extra Strength (300 mg) and Super Strength (400 mg).
- You should start to feel better 20 to 30 minutes after taking ibuprofen by mouth. For some types of long-term pain, you'll need to take ibuprofen regularly for up to 3 weeks for it to work properly. If you're applying ibuprofen to your skin, it should start to work within 1 to 2 days.
- Check with your doctor to be sure you can use these medicines safely, particularly if you have kidney disease. Heavy or long-term use of some of these medicines, such as ibuprofen, naproxen, and higher dose aspirin, can cause chronic kidney disease known as chronic interstitial nephritis.
- If you need additional pain relief, you can combine aspirin, naproxen, or ibuprofen with acetaminophen. However, do not take aspirin, naproxen, or ibuprofen within 8-12 hours of each other. Also, watch out for pain medications that might be included in combination products such as those used for cough and cold.
Advil® Tablets also reduce fever. Each Advil® tablet is round, sugar coated and easy to swallow. It contains ibuprofen 200 mg.
- Moreover, if you taken Advil in the form of liquid-Gel, it will start showing its effect within the 30 minutes of consumption, however, if you taken a tablet, it may take up to 50 minutes to start working.

- Ibuprofen, which is found in Motrin and Advil, belongs to a widely used class of pain relievers known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. In the study, when a single dose of ibuprofen was taken beforehand, aspirin lost 98 percent of its blood-thinning power.
