How many coats of primer do I need on dark paint?

Even covering one dark color with another dark color, such as painting deep red over dark blue, can be challenging. By applying just two coats of primer, however, you can cover a dark color with even white or very light paint using only a couple of coats of paint.

Considering this, how long do you have to wait between coats of paint?

Typically, your second coat of latex paint can be applied two to four hours after the first coat. If you're using an oil-based interior paint, it is often best to wait 24 hours between coats.

How many coats of paint should be applied to new drywall?

You only ever need 1 coat of primer. Many times you'll need 2 (or 3 or even more) coats of paint to get good coverage, depending on the color, but priming is only done once.
