How many cigarettes are safe in a day?
Only a few prospective studies have reported on the health consequences of smoking fewer than five cigarettes per day. Our aim was to determine the risk in men and women smoking 1–4 cigarettes per day of dying from specified smoking related diseases and from any cause.
Of course, quitting smoking or reducing the number of cigarettes you smoke is probably the single best way to improve your health. However, there are several other things a smoker can do to stay healthy: Eat a healthy diet, rich in fresh fruits and vegetables. Engage in regular exercise.

Smoking's effect on body weight could lead to weight loss by increasing the metabolic rate, decreasing metabolic efficiency, or decreasing caloric absorption (reduction in appetite), all of which are associated with tobacco use. The metabolic effect of smoking could explain the lower body weight found in smokers.
- Cigarette smoke contains various toxins, including tar which affect the cleaning process of the lungs by sticking to the lungs. This will reduce the oxygen absorbing capacity of the lungs. When the body organs like heart and brain do not get enough oxygen we feel tired.
- The Weight Loss Cycle after Quitting Smoking. Once you quit smoking, your appetite will return to normal, which is a good thing. You will no longer be depriving your body of the nutrients it needs. However, you will likely gain weight in the immediate weeks following smoking cessation.
