How long can you lay on a heating pad?
Although you may be able to tolerate more heat, you want to generally keep a electric heating pad on your body for no more than twenty minutes. It is easy to be able to have the heating pad on for more time, you just must take the heating pad off your body for at least twenty minutes before you put it back on.
This is known as a slipped, herniated, or prolapsed disk. This causes pain and discomfort. If the slipped disk compresses one of your spinal nerves, you may also experience numbness and pain along the affected nerve. In severe instances, you may require surgery to remove or repair the slipped disk.
- If your slipped disc looks more like a herniated disc, your body can potentially begin to heal through the process of resorption. If you are still dealing with persistent symptoms after several months of conservative treatment and waiting for your disc to heal on its own, your doctor may recommend spine surgery.
- If you have a herniated lumbar disc, you may feel pain that radiates from your low back area, down one or both legs, and sometimes into your feet (called sciatica). You may feel a pain like an electric shock that is severe whether you stand, walk, or sit.
- Even if you only have lower back pain, your chiropractor will examine your neck, too, for example. To treat a herniated disc, your chiropractor will develop a treatment plan that may include spinal manipulation—also known as adjustments—and other chiropractic techniques to help ease your herniated disc symptoms.
