How does a sound proof window work?
First, we use laminated glass. The inner PVB layer of plastic stops vibrations – like a finger on a tuning fork that also stops the 'sweet spots' referred to above. Secondly, there is an air space between the two windows (the existing window and the new Soundproof window), so the frame is isolated from vibrations.
To reduce sound, you must create a barrier between the sound and ear that captures the sound. Homes do that with walls, roofs, and windows that block sound waves from entering. To increase a window's ability to block sound and increase its STC rating, the window manufacturer must: Add mass (make the glass thicker)
- Soundproof Curtains Work! In the end, maybe the best description is “soundproof-er”. You will not get a 100% transmission loss with any standard installation, because noise is still entering through walls, around the edges of gaps, and through the lightest materials (which is still the window/curtain combo).
- Sliding Glass Doors. Soundproof sliding glass doors are as effective as our soundproof windows in stopping noise. Like our soundproof windows, what we do is add a second sliding glass door that does even more for sound and security. Our soundproof doors can be mounted inside or outside your existing sliding glass door.
- Sound Transmission Class (or STC) is an integer rating of how well a building partition attenuates airborne sound. In the USA, it is widely used to rate interior partitions, ceilings/floors, doors, windows and exterior wall configurations (see ASTM International Classification E413 and E90).
Buying replacement dual pane windows as described below may decrease your noise levels by only about 10% over what you already have. You should buy dual pane windows that have at least a one inch thick glass assembly. The glass should be 1/8" thick on one side and at least 3/16" thick on the other side.
- Sound screens, also known as white noise machines or sound filters, are essential whether you have a private, group or agency psychotherapy practice. Sound screens are placed just outside your office and create a white noise that filters out any noise that might come through your office door.

- Second, it blocks the sun's rays from deteriorating the adhesive that structurally bonds the glass to the vehicle. Infrared - A term used to describe Solar Coated glass. Laminated - A sandwich of two pieces of glass with a PVB layer between them. All front windshields are made of laminated glass.
