- How Do You Eat Green Tomatoes? While you can ripen green tomatoes indoors, we like to cook with them as they are. Fried green tomatoes are one of the most popular ways to cook them, and for good reason — they hold up well to being sliced, dredged, and fried, and the slight sour flavor works well with a crunchy coating.
- Unripe (red) tomatoes will be pale green all over, feel nearly solid and will have a more acidic or tart flavor. Nearly ripe green tomatoes (ones that feel soft) may be ripened in a paper bag on the counter top. Both can be used in several different recipes.no not just the Fried Green Tomatoes!

- It's just a mixture of chopped tomatoes, balsamic, basil, and garlic, spooned over olive-oil brushed slices of toasted baguette or rustic bread. It's perfect for a party because you can make a large batch of the topping ahead of time, as well as toasting baguette slices.
- Roast until tender, about 1 hour, adding water to the pan if necessary. Peel breadfruit, and discard stem and core, then slice the remaining flesh, and serve with Vegetable Rundown, to absorb all that tasty sauce!
- Place bread directly on oven grates and broil on low for about a minute to a minute and a half on each side, more if you like your toast crunchy. Heat a heavy pan with no oil or butter over medium high heat. Drop bread in, allow to crisp for 1-2 minutes, then flip and repeat.
