Do skinks give live birth?

Most reptiles give birth to live young, but there are some reptiles that do have placenta like structures capable of transferring nutrients and are therefore considered viviparous like mammals. In fact, forty-five percent of skink species are viviparous with many others being ovoviviparous, although some do lay eggs.

Hereof, which reptiles do not lay eggs?

With only two exceptions, the echidna and the platypus, all mammals deliver live births. Reptiles, on the other hand, generally lay eggs to hatch their young. Like the two rare mammals that lay eggs, this trend is broken for reptiles by a few species that give live birth to their young.

Do all reptiles lay eggs?

Reptile eggs. Although a few reptile species give birth to live young, most reptiles hatch from eggs. Most reptiles lay eggs with soft, leathery shells, but minerals in the shells can make them harder. Some reptiles leave the eggs to develop and hatch on their own.

Are reptiles born alive or in eggs?

Reptiles that Give Live Birth. A reptile is a vertebrate that is covered in scales and breathes air through lungs. Even among lepidosaurs, most lay eggs that hatch into young, but some give birth to live young. Reptiles that give birth to live young can be divided into two types: viviparous and ovoviviparous.
