Do babies have to crawl before they walk?

Crawling May Be Unnecessary for Normal Child Development. Babies must crawl before they walk, parents and pediatricians agree. Instead their parents and other caregivers carry them until they can walk. Yet Au children do not appear to suffer any ill effects from skipping this phase.

Is crawling important?

The answer is, "Yes." Along with strengthening the trunk, shoulders and hand muscles, the mechanics of crawling stimulate different areas of the brain that are important for future learning. Another important piece of development that occurs during the crawling stage is binocular vision.
