Can you use an inactive phone to call 911?
Most people do not realize that if you have an old cell phone that is not activated through your local cellular company, you can still dial 911 in an emergency as long as the phone is charged. If the phone is inactive, so is the GPS system in the phone.
The only downside to this, is that the phone can not be called back by the 911 operator. So, the caller will either need to stay on the line with the dispatcher, or possibly call back with updates. Now, that being said, if you give old cell phones to children to play with, this means that they can dial 911.
- After being first revealed earlier this year, Google Home, the search giant's answer to the Amazon Echo, finally has a price. The small speaker, which comes equipped with the Google Assistant AI, will be available for $129 with a free six-month trial of YouTube Red when it launches on November 4 2016.
- The Google Assistant is a virtual assistant developed by Google that is primarily available on mobile and smart home devices. Assistant initially debuted in May 2016 as part of Google's messaging app Allo, and its voice-activated speaker Google Home.
- Given what we've seen in the explosion of AI assistants and software bots from other companies, you'd expect Google to brand these products' connective tissue with a personality and a name — Apple has Siri, Amazon has Alexa, and Microsoft has Cortana. Instead, Google's new AI assistant is just called… Google Assistant.
