Can you boil tap water to purify it?

Boiling water is the safest method of purification. Whether you're out camping, in a country with under or un-sanitized drinking water, or you fear your local water supply has become contaminated, boiling water kills germs and parasites. However, it's important to know how long you need to boil it to make it safe.

Similarly, it is asked, how long do you have to boil water to make it drinkable?

US Center for Disease Control: “Boiling can be used as a pathogen reduction method that should kill all pathogens. Water should be brought to a rolling boil for 1 minute. At altitudes greater than 6,562 feet (greater than 2000 meters), you should boil water for 3 minutes.”

How long does it take for boiling water to sterilize?

Place clean bottles, teats, caps and utensils in a large saucepan on the back burner of the stove. Add enough water to cover all the equipment, making sure there are no air bubbles. Bring water to the boil, and boil rapidly for 5 minutes.
