Are metals hard and brittle?

Also, a material's hardness is defined as it's ability to resist penetration, as in, they don't get scratched easily. However, brittleness is the ability of a material to fracture without much deformation. So a glass is brittle yet hard.

Which element is brittle?

Unlike metals, non-metals are poor conductors of heat and electricity. They are brittle and usually dull in color. They sound boring, but they're actually the coolest. Carbon (C, Z = 6) is one of the least boring elements on the periodic table.

What are some examples of brittle materials?

Metals are a common type of ductile material. Copper, aluminum, and steel are examples of ductile metals. The opposite of ductility is brittleness, where a material breaks when tensile stress is applied to lengthen it. Examples of brittle materials include cast iron, concrete, and some glass products.
